The aim:
1. Introducing key concepts of human rights.
2. Introducing the international framework of human rights protection.
3. Studying sources of human rights.
4. Discussing challenges to effective human rights protection.

Acquired knowledge:
1. Gaining knowledge of theories of human rights.
2. Gaining knowledge of sources of human rights and their interpretations.

Acquired skills:
1. Gaining ability to interpret legal text and presenting legal arguments.
2. Gaining the ability to use a comparative legal method.

Acquired social skills:
1. Gaining awareness about problems related to implementation of human rights standards at the national or local level.

Course contents
1. A short history of human rights.
2. Foundations of Human Rights: Dignity, Liberty, Equality.
3. Human rights and democracy.
4. Human rights and human needs.
5. Human rights and culture.
6. Human rights and other values.
7. International framework of human rights protection: UN, Council of Europe, European Union.
8. Implementation of human rights standards at national level: states and non-state actors.
