Objective:
The course presents the concepts, principles, sources and content of international humanitarian law
The aim:
to provide fundamentals of international protection during times of armed conflict
to acquaint student with critical notions, concepts, principles and values of international humanitarian law
Acquired knowledge:
students have the knowlegde of the character of international humanitarian law
students have the knowlegde of the legal system of protection during times of armed conflict
Acquired skills:
students are able to identify the law as it stands, its written and unwritten rules
students are able to apply substantive and procedural law while understanding interconnections among different norms
strudents are able to indentify the uncertainties, gaps, controversies and practical problems
Developed reflection:
students are able to present and defend in public their position regarding protection of victims of armed conflicts
students are able to identify main legal, social and economic problems arising with protection during armed conflicts
Assessment:
The final grade consists of: exam (80%), term papers (10%), class activity (10%).
Contents:
Basic notions and concepts regarding humanitarian law; the origin and development of international humanitarian law; comparative law as a means of harmonisation and convergence.
Sources of international humanitarian law. Impact of international law on regional and domestic legal systems
