Objective:
The course presents the concepts, principles, sources and content of selected international legal regulations regarding environmental protection.
The aim:
to provide fundamentals of international environmental protection law
to acquaint student with critical notions, concepts, principles and values of international environmental law
Acquired knowledge:
students have the knowlegde of the character of international environmental law
students have the knowlegde of the legal system of environment’s protection
Acquired skills:
students are able to design structure and competencies of environmental protection authorities
students are able to apply substantive and procedural environmental law while understanding interconnections among national, European and international norms
Developed reflection:
students are able to present and defend in public their position regarding environmental protection
students are able to identify main legal, social and economic problems arising with protection
Assessment:
The final grade consists of: exam ( 80 % ), term paper ( 10 % ), class activity ( 10% ).
Contents:
Basic notions and concepts regarding enviromental protection; the origin and development of international environmental law; comparative law as a means of harmonisation and convergence.
Sources of international environmental law. Impact of international law on regional and domestic legal systems of environmental protection
General principles of international environmental law
The international environmental law-making process
Main “horizontal” instruments of environmental protection; access to environmental information; citizens’ and NGOs’ participation in environmental decision-making by public authorities;enviromental impact assessment;
