Economics and Society

The aim:
1. Getting acquainted with basic economic concepts and their importance in the analysis of social phenomena.
2. Understanding the importance of economic development in solving social problems.
3. Becoming aware of the nature of large-scale social cooperation as spontaneous order.

Acquired knowledge:
1. The student understands the importance of economic theory in the analysis of social phenomena.
2. The student knows the relationship between the effectiveness of social cooperation and the environment of economic institutions.
3. The student has knowledge of the nature of the socio-economic causes and effects of globalization.

Acquired skills:
1. The student is able to analyze social phenomena through the prism of concepts such as opportunity costs, motivation structures and unintended consequences.
2. The student is able to evaluate socio-economic programs in terms of their profitability and feasibility.
3. The student is able to describe the legal and institutional environment conducive to macroeconomic stability.

Acquired social skills:
1. The student demonstrates responsibility for the socio-economic environment.
2. The student appreciates the importance of phenomena such as the division of labor, opportunity costs, motivation structures and unintended consequences in the development of social processes.
3. The student is sensitive to the nuances of economic and cultural globalization.

5. Cyberslacking.
6. The economics of advertising.
7. The nature and role of competition.
8. The role and influence of incentives.
9. Information in market transactions.
10. Monopolies.
11. Inflation.
12. Unemployment and the labor market.
13. Macroeconomic indicators: GDP, GNP, HDI, GNH.
14. Economic “paradoxes”: Veblen goods, Giffen goods, and network effects.
