Data and Information Protection in Business

The aim:
1. Acquiring knowledge of the basic definitions used in modern information law and information protection.
2. Acquiring knowledge about the system of sources of law in the field of personal data protection and information protection (European law).
3. Acquiring knowledge in the principles of organization and operation of the personal data protection and information protection system.

Acquired knowledge:
1. Student has knowledge of the basic legal acts relating to the right to the protection of private life and the right to the protection of personal data.
2. Student knows concepts and definitions in the field of personal data protection and information protection.
3. Student understands the principles of organization and operation of the personal data protection and information protection system.

Acquired skills:
1. Student interprets selected norms of legal acts from the area covered by the subject.
2. Student is able to reproduce the basic principles of information and personal data protection.
3. Student is able to identify the basic problem in the field of protection of the right to privacy and propose a solution.

Acquired social skills:
1. Student is able to publicly present the results of the analysis of researched problems.
2. Student is able to participate in the preparation of social projects, taking into account legal, economic and political aspects.
3. Student has the ability to contextualize legal problems regarding legal matters in the area of ​​protection of the right to privacy and personal data.

Course contents
1. The concept and scope of the right to protection of private life in European law. The origins and concept of protection of information.
2. The right to the protection of personal data and its limitations. The right to protection of personal data vis-a-vis other rights and freedoms of the individual.
3. European data protection reform. The concept of personal data. Data processing. Data users. Specific types of data and appropriate measures to protect them.
4. Basic principles of personal data and information protection in European law.
5. Measures for the protection of personal data and information in European and national law.
6. Contemporary challenges of data and information protection.
