Objective: 
1. To prepare student for theoretical understanding of international human rights concepts
2. To prepare student for practical application of humann rights law in international and European legal area

Prerequisites: 
Prior to the course, student should know the basis of constitutional law, and meet the elements of jurisprudence. Furthermore, student should possess a knowledge of the basis of international law and European Union law.

Contents: 
1. Subjectivity in international law: International organizations as subjects of international law. Individual as a subject of international law
2. The evolution and normative framework of international human rights: The notion of human rights. International human rights before World War II. The postwar establishment of human rights norm. Internationalisation of human rights
3. Sources of international human rights law: Custom. General Principles of law. Conventions. Non-binding instruments (soft law).
4. The United Nations system of human rights law: The International Bill of Rights. Principal and special organs. The UN machinery of human rights – International Commissioner of Human Rights
5. The regional systems of human rights law: Europe and human rights – Council of Europe and the European Court of Human Rights, European Union and the European Court of Justice. The inter-American system – the American Convention of Human Rights, The Inter- American Court of Human Rights
6. The substantive human rights law e.g. right to life, rigt to freedom of speach, right to privacy, prohibition of discrimination, prohibition of torture)
